Comparing DMT to DMT-n-Oxide

Most of the information I've come across states that DMT-n-Oxide is the less potent younger brother of proper n,n-DMT. In my experience, n-Oxide is actually quite a bit different than DMT with quite pronounced differences. I'd like to share those differences from my various DMT and DMT-n-Oxide sessions.

First things first. Most the info out there about DMT-n-Oxide pretty much just states that it takes a little longer to hit you than DMT, it lasts longer, and it's less potent. These first two points are dead on, and the last one is true but it should also be mentioned that the experiences are quite different. DMT feels more transcendent, like the experience is far beyond what a psychedelic traditionally offers. DMT-n-Oxide feels like a more classic psychedelic experience, like the peek of a shroom trip all sped up and fed through your brain in five minutes.

I'll concede that the DMT experience is stronger, but I think calling DMT-n-Oxide a less potent version of DMT is wrong. DMT will really sweep the rug out from under you, and you'll be left wondering what the hell just happened and where you are. You may find yourself in some place that does not exist, with no attachment to physical reality. What happens there is very hard to remember since it happens so fast, and pretty soon your back, riding out gentle waves of energy until the whole experience is over. For me, the return to baseline is complete after five to ten minutes from returning to reality. The DMT experience has incredibly convincing, true hallucinations. Wherever you go, whatever happens, feels very real and very powerful.

DMT-n-Oxide has a much gentler come up. It feels a lot like ayahuasca, but of course sped up. I'll close my eyes and see a distant visual construct approaching. Pretty soon it overtakes me and the experience really begins. This consists of merging with a tremendous energy field and witnessing incredible visions. These visions are a lot like a shroom peak, but generally they morph faster and in more complex ways. Also, I can look around and change the perspective of the visions, something that I don't recall being able to do on either shrooms or LSD. This gives the space a very 3-D aspect. These visions can be greatly appreciated since the peak experience lasts at least twice as long as DMT. The come-down is much more gradual, with maybe fifteen minutes of light tripping followed by a half hour of gentle, relaxed euphoria.

The dose-response curve is a lot different than DMT as well. It's pretty linear. If you take twice as much, you'll get about twice as high. With DMT, the dose-response curve has a discontinuity somewhere around 30-75 milligrams, depending on the individual. This is the breakthrough point, where the response is so much more intense the effects hardly resemble those of a lower dose. DMT-n-Oxide probably has a breakthrough point as well, but I haven't found it yet. It would take the proverbial fourth toke to find it, and perhaps even the fifth and sixth toke as well. It doesn't seem necessary though, since this sub-breakthrough space is so much more interesting and long-lasting than a sub-breakthrough DMT trip.

What's also interesting about DMT-n-Oxide is that you can get farther on a sub-breakthrough trip than with DMT. After a certain point DMT completely changes character on you, and you are in for quite an multidimensional ride. That limit can be surpassed with DMT-n-Oxide without the breakthrough, so you can explore the sub-breakthrough experience only now it's roughly twice, three, or four times as interesting and intense, dosage allowing. DMT-n-Oxide seems to pick up where DMT leaves off, and believe me, there is a lot there to see and experience.

Overall, I'd say DMT-n-Oxide has a much more recreational vibe to it, as in it's something of a casual drug experience. It's something you might be able to jump into and trip hard and come back with a very smooth afterglow. DMT however is something more like a portal to another galaxy. It's more suited for exploration, and will generally leave you a bit shaken up and with a head full of questions.
